About us
We are Pam and Sam, a couple of coral enthusiasts, ocean lovers and underwater adventurers.
We fell in love with the underwater life after getting our free diving and scuba diving certifications!
Fast enough, we saw how humans have a much bigger impact in coral reefs that we either know or want to accept...
MAYAN RIVIERA: MEXICO'S PIECE OF PARADISE
We live in Quintana Roo, known also as Mayan Riviera, includes some very popular and massively touristic locations such as Cancun, Tulum, Playa del Carmen and Cozumel; and especially because we live in such a touristic paradise, we are able to see the consequences of human impact on our coast, oceans, mangroves and Cenotes.
This massive tourism generates a lot of waste, and if you add the plastic that arrives from the different currents in the sea, we often find our coasts filled with plastic, so we love helping different beach cleanup's teams around the area.
"We've seen everything underwater all of the magic and beauty and a much darker side, we started to document it all "
- Plastic... A LOT of plastic...
- Broken corals at the bottom of the sea, bleached corals...
- Boat operators with no interest in caring for marine life...
- People kicking or stepping in corals on shallow water...
- People taking photographs not being aware of their surroundings, harming corals and marine life, most of the times without even knowing it...
Plastic pollution, overfishing, global warming, ocean acidification and ignorance on how to co-exist with nature, are some of the threats coral reefs face.
"Ignorance is very dangerous, and it’s killing our reefs "
"We decided it was time for us to do something about it"
This project started as a way to support coral restoration efforts in Cozumel and Mayan Riviera, with funds, material, helping restore corals and gathering more volunteers. Fast forward 2021, we start to work towards one of our dreams, which is creating a rehabilitation and restoration program in Mayan Riviera, where everyone can come to help, learn and get involved in rehabilitation of coral reefs.
Everyone can help in this journey, join us today!
